Will History Repeat Itself?

This seems to the question on many a commenter's mind as of late: Will it be twins, again? Of course, I won't know for sure until we see an ultrasound but all signs point to NO! Thank the sweet Lord. Strangely, many of my MOT friends have secret fantasies about having another set. I think they are crazy. I mean, don't get me wrong - if I find out its twins, I'll love them just as I would one baby. But there is not even one little piece of me that wishes it were twins. I'm really looking forward to a "normal" singleton pregnancy. And hopefully one baby won't take the same toll on my body that two did.

So, how do I know it's not twins? Well for those of you who don't know, we have used IVF for both pregnancies, this last one a single FET. We know there is just one embie in there - if it does end up being twins, they will definitely be identical. And run the risk of sharing a placenta and/or sac, both higher risk situations than my fraternal twin pregnancy. Also, the hormone levels (HCG, to be exact) does not indicate twins. Just hints at a very healthy, singleton pregnancy. Of course, I will sleep sounder once we see the nugget on the screen and see the heartbeat. Hopefully that will happen sometime next week.

In the meantime, thank you all for your well wishes. We are so thrilled to be adding another baby to our family.

PS - we are due July 25th! Now I have to wrap my brain around the concept of being pregnant for the whole 40 weeks. Hrm...

  1. Hey Nicole,
Thanks for posting on my blog, it's always good to know that someone has actually looked at it!

Congrats on your pregnancy, that's so exciting! I can't believe your babies are already a year old. Time goes by so fast.

The bun is sticking so far, so I'm happy about that. I had a miscarriage about a year ago, so I can't help but be kind of nervous, just hoping this one stays put.

Good luck with the pregnancy, hope it's an easy one!

  2. I'm one of the crazy twin moms who would love twins again ... if I wanted any more kids at all, that is. My identicals shared an outer sac and placenta, and had separate inner sacs. There were no TTTT complications, thank goodness. They were only 3 oz apart in weight at birth.

    Enjoy your singleton pregnancy. :)

  3. I LOVE having twins! Having said that, I can't believe how much more relaxing it is to have a singleton. There's benefits to both ways (twins vs. singleton) and I'm glad I've gotten to experience both!

  4. Congrats. I hope you are able to enjoy a healthy pregnancy to the end. Not that I should be able to have more (I have heard stories that it can happen after you get your tunes tied), but I did have a dream that not only was I pregnant again, but with twins again. I love that I have been able to experience twin pregnancy along with a singleton, but I am more than happy with my 3 cuties!

  5. Wow! I just read over your last few posts and saw that you are expecting again. Congratulations!! I hope that the pregnancy is all you hope for...assuming it's a singleton pregnancy, it should be a walk in the park, right? : )
